LEGENDARY ESCAPE ROOMS & AXE THROWING
In 2016, Legendary Escape Games started with 2 horror escape rooms at their first location at Basement of the Dead Haunted Attraction. Meanwhile, the creative department of Legendary Escape Games operated and flourished as a B2B service and developed more games and experiences for clients all over the world.
By 2021, Legendary needed a rebranding to attract a wider audience when they finally opened its second flagship location that featured family friendly attractions. I proposed that the company distinguish between two entities: Games for the creative team that conceptualizes and executes the designs, and Rooms for the location-based visitor attraction.
The Brief
The owner wanted a look that evolved from the company’s ruggedness yet still embraced its industrial roots in a whimsical way. The owner also specifically wanted a gear motif.
Both of Legendary’s locations are within historic railroad towns in Chicago’s suburbs, so I proposed that the new brand references a historic Chicagoan attraction responsible for the development of these railways: The Chicago World’s Fair.
Rebranding & Logo Design
Signage
I made a slideshow that showed the prices for each experience and played on a screen behind the lobby desk. I shot all the photos, selected the typography, and made each layout. A sample of the images are displayed above. I also designed the window and awning decals for the the exterior decorations. The designs are featured below.
Photography
As opening day approached, Legendary needed photography done for their social media. The promotional photo shoot happened during the second wave of COVID, so I was the only person in the building when I shot these images.
Videos
Legendary Escape Rooms & Axe Throwing needed 6 total promotional videos for each of the 4 escape rooms, axe throwing, and the Plainfield location overall.
They gave me one evening to shoot all the footage needed for 5 different videos featuring each of the 5 experiences that all had unique lighting conditions.
After the shoot, I edited and color graded all the footage. I also animated title sequences for each of the four trailers. I even animated a COVID-19 mask reminder.
This was the video that played in Legendary’s lobby during 2021. It features the 4 trailers for the rooms and the mask reminder.
